Friday Notes

Dear Parents,

The holiday spirit is in the air at LAS with our youngest students singing in the hallways and our band members working hard as the concert approaches! The Giving Tree in the office is almost bare and it is evident that giving is on everyone's mind as well.

Our honors breakfast is scheduled for next Friday morning and will begin at 7:30 am in the cafeteria. All students in grades 5-8 are invited.

I had the opportunity to meet with our 8th graders today and we had a nice conversation about the meaning of the word legacy. I presented an idea to them that framed the conversation and let them know that as a class they are being given the opportunity to sign the last steel beam that will go up on the crane. We are consistently looking for ways to talk about the contributions they can be making as young adults and what they feel they can leave to LAS. There are still many months left and their budding maturity has enhanced the conversation. We will spend some time on Monday morning (the crane will be taken off site after this) giving them time to sign their names and the quote they have chosen as a class. Here is the quote that they chose:
"If you're going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can't be erased."

I thought it was the perfect way to end the week and I am looking forward to experiencing this moment with them.

Enjoy the weekend,
